A Misshapen Tooth Can Be Addressed with a Dental Crown

Posted .

Genetics and certain external factors can sometimes cause a permanent tooth to emerge in an imperfect shape. If the tooth is located in the front of your child’s mouth, it could cause them to feel uncomfortable about the appearance of their smile.

In a situation like this, you should consider setting up a consultation appointment with one of our skilled dentists. After assessing the shape of the tooth, surrounding oral structure and general health of your child’s mouth, she will present you with a potential treatment plan.

In some cases of a single misshapen tooth, our dentist can address the issue with a porcelain dental crown. This treatment process will essentially remove the natural tooth enamel to create an abutment. Once this is done, our dentist will make an impression of your tooth, which will be sent, along with any other pertinent information, to a dental lab. Here, the dental crown will be created from a special type of dental grade porcelain that looks just like natural tooth enamel and can be shaded to perfectly match the surrounding teeth.

When the dental crown is ready, our dentist will marry the porcelain dental crown to the abutment with a special type of dental cement. This will complete the dental restoration process.
