The first thing to think of about visiting the dental office if you are feeling anxious is to let your feelings be known. Feel free to talk to the staff about your feelings and concerns. Let them know what you are afraid of, so they can do what they can to help you with every step of the treatment process. Remember to ask questions, so you know exactly what is going to happen.

Another thing you can do to feel safe and comfortable with the dentist is to work out a system of communication. For example, you can raise your hand if you need your dentist to stop for a moment. Remember to count your breath and keep your breathing patterns slow and steady. You can also bring headphones in and listen to a movie or your own music from your cell phone.
